Unlock Democracy

I am a retired headteacher who has always been active in political organisation and constitutional issues. From CND, so long ago, to more recently “No to ID” (Newcastle and Gateshead Coordinator) and the Yes referendum campaigns I have attempted to involve many in the pursuit of change. I believe that a system that is controlled by a few becomes part of the problem that faces citizens in their search for control of their own lives and participation in the direction their society takes. The hope of fuller participation based on new technology brings hope for those who believe in change.

 

After some bitter experiences of being in organisations that over time have lost their original high ideals as established leaders seek power for the sake of it, I would wish to add my organisational ability and energies to ensuring that Unlock Democracy remains true to its founding ideals. Participants in the process advocated by the organisation must be confident that the management of the systems is accountable to, and responsive to the views, and indicated direction of campaigning, of those participants.

 

Unlock Democracy offers a method by which vested interests, be they political or financial may be best challenged by citizens, and it is vital that confidence is high regarding its inclusivity and commitment to the democratic principles it espouses.

 

I believe it to be so at present but the price of freedom is eternal vigilance.
